Description:
The Citadel (Umina Beach), Umina Plateau, GNW to Tessellated Pavement, Elephant Rock, Warrah Trig, Pearl Cave, Pink Onion & Arboretum, Postmans track, Crater track to Green Pt Creek Waterfall, Ridge track to RFS, Pearl Beach, Umina Pt, Umina Beach, Ocean Beach. This walk is a combination of trails, tracks, some heavily overgrown/off track, beaches, some connecting streets. Mild exposure around Umina Pt. Buses from/to Woy Woy Station at start/end. Map: Broken Bay
At the time of recording the old track to Elephant Rock was heavily overgrown but still doable – views from the rock are superb making it an ideal morning tea stop. A highlight of the walk is the quirky Pink Onion sculpture gardens.
An alternative for easier access to Elephant Rock is via a regularly used track about 350 m along Patonga Dr towards Patonga from the old access point (waypoint for easier access below). Tide and heavy swell on the day meant it was not prudent to drop down to the rock shelf around Umina Point. Bus #57 to the start from Woy Woy Station, Stand E (8:27am) – alight Carpenter St at Lone Pine Ave. The walk starts with a stiff climb via the streets to the vacant block with RFS trailer next to #12 The Citadel. GPX route finishes at The Ocean Beach Hotel, close to Umina Beach Library bus stop (south side of West St) for regular buses to Woy Woy Station.
