Description:
“Will the botafumeiro be swung you may well ask” – I have to say that this bit in the walk description of John Hungerford’s Virtual Camino sounded equally intriguing and ominous to me (not being familiar with the terminology of the famous pilgrim’s journey to Santiago de Compostela in Spain). And yet this invitation to come along on a walk from St John’s in Gordon to St James in Turramurra with some pleasant bushland in between and turn it into a virtual re-enactment of The Camino under John the Peregrino’s guidance was too good to be refused! I am happy to report that nobody came to harm, that a “botafumeiro” is not some medieval torture instrument for self-flagellation but a censer that swings on a rope attached to the ceiling of the cathedral, and that all of us who completed today’s pilgrimage whilst duly learning about The Way and repenting all of our wrongdoings are now one step closer to Heaven – how cool is that!!
